Project Management is a delicate skill. You work with people to achieve a deadline for completion against a budget constraint, sometimes under dangerous conditions. Delivery schedules for materials and equipment, and procurement processes have to be carefully controlled. Many executives make the grave mistake of underestimating the effort to focus on a project’s needs by taking on the task themselves. This usually leads to an unhealthy overlap of responsibilities and one or the other, or both will suffer. Choose wisely and use a dedicated Project Manager, whether it is a project to construct something or a project to achieve a company goal.
